Affected council services

We’ve put a range of measures in place to protect you and local businesses during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and to continue to deliver our statutory services, but some of our facilities and services are closed or changed as part of our response.

You can see the latest information on impacted services listed A-Z on this page and you can continue to access services, such as payments and our planning portal, online. Services not listed on this page are currently running normally.

A-Z of affected council services

Bin collections

We are collecting all bins in Ashfield and there are no changes to bin and waste collections. You can find when your next collection is on our bin calendar.

If you are self-isolating, place personal waste (such as used tissues) and any disposable cleaning cloths within a disposable rubbish bag. Place this inside a second bag, tie securely, and keep separate from other waste in the room in which you are self-isolating. Keep aside for at least 72 hours before putting into your normal household waste (red-lidded) bin.

If you are unable to put your bin out for collection due to self-isolation please contact us by:

  • telephone: 0800 183 8484.

Building Control

We are still providing a full service, including inspections subject to social distancing guidance. Find out more about building control

Bulky waste collections

Collections are bookable and ongoing.

Car parks

All our car parks are open.

Cemeteries and crematorium

We are asking residents not to use our cemeteries for their daily exercise and will continue to work with Nottinghamshire Police to ensure that nobody congregates in Ashfield’s cemeteries unnecessarily.

We share responsibility for Mansfield and District Crematorium with Mansfield District Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council. Some restrictions are in place and there are changes to how funerals are held. Visit the Mansfield and District Crematorium website (external link) for the latest information.

Council buildings and customer services

Urban Road, Kirkby is now open to the public.

You will not require an appointment to access the building, but to avoid waiting times we advise you to make an appointment with the relevant team in advance. Waiting times are likely to be longer than normal.

The offices will be open to the public:

  • 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • 9:30am – 5:00pm Wednesday
  • 8:30am – 4:30pm Friday

Watnall Road, Hucknall office is open on an appointment based system. This is to limit the numbers of customers at one time to comply with covid-safe requirements.

Please do not enter the offices if you are displaying any symptoms of Covid-19. Face covering must be worn (unless exempt) and where possible please attend on your own. Social distancing measures and additional cleansing will be in place.
Residents should call the relevant department directly who will advise if an appointment is necessary.

Wherever possible, telephone or email enquiries are encouraged and appointments will only be made if they are necessary.

Many of our services can be accessed quickly and easily online:

Council houses and lettings

Lettings are now open and if you’re looking for council or housing association accommodation you can still apply online on the HomeFinder website.

Council housing repairs

We will continue to be carrying out repairs. When you report a repair, you will be asked if you or anyone in your household have any symptoms of coronavirus or are self-isolating before the repair is booked. If you do have symptoms or are self-isolating our repairs team may ask that your repair is scheduled for a time when you and your household are able to receive visitors again.

All public council events are currently cancelled.

Leisure centres

Our leisure centres are now open.

Playgrounds, parks and green spaces are open.

MOT testing

Our MOT services are fully open.

Vehicles can be left with us or waiting is allowed in the MOT reception area only. If you wish to wait with the vehicle please do not arrive too early before your slot as there is only room for 2 people in the reception waiting area.

For Taxi and Private Hire Compliance Testing: we are now open for all new vehicle applications and for all renewal applications and interim 6-month compliance tests.

All of our parks and green spaces are open.

We ask that all visitors to our parks and green spaces stick to the social distancing guidelines.

Planning and planning enforcement

Our planning application, consultation and review process is running normally with some changes to allow for virtual meetings where needed.

In terms of enforcement we continue to register and acknowledge formal complaints but are asking for full details and evidence to be submitted to help us assess and decide a course of action. A pragmatic approach is being taken and some matters may need to be tolerated temporarily so as not to go against the government’s guidelines on movement and travel.

You can find full information on how we are continuing to deliver planning services during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

Recycling centres (tips)

Household waste recycling centres (tips) are looked after by Nottinghamshire County Council. All Nottinghamshire recycling centres are now open. More information on recycling centres and tips

Do not place waste you would normally take to a recycling centre in your kerbside bin. Instead, store this safely until you can access a recycling centre. Check what you can put in each bin, and when your next collection is on our bin calendar
