There are several useful business support schemes and grants that can be used to improve internal processes and systems, leading to greater efficiency and productivity.
Nottingham University's Productivity Through Innovation
This is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and provides businesses with tailored support for meaningful and sustainable productivity improvements to increase turnover, competitiveness and profitability.>
SMEs can get up to 4 fully-funded 200 hour postgraduate placements, 5 days of consultancy from academic experts for technical interventions including help with prototyping and testing, and a 30% grant towards the salary of a graduate for up to 12 months, plus funding towards any bespoke collaborative research carried out by a postgraduate student and supervised by an academic.

Business Investment Fund
This is from D2N2, they have a grant fund that is aimed towards business productivity and efficiency projects. They have grants between £3,500 and £30,000, up to a maximum of 35% of eligible project costs. The fund supports businesses that trade B2B who are looking to make a step-change in their business with projects that will improve productivity, efficiency or result in job creation. These changes may include digital developments, specialist consultancy such as leadership and management or equipment purchases. This project is coming to an end and any projects will need to be delivered by 31st December 2021 to be acceptable.

Enscite is a partnership between University of Derby and Aston University, which is funded via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Supply Chain Consultancy
Nottingham Trent University (NTU) are offering a fully funded review of your supply chain strategy and processes. NTU’s consultants are led by Rob Johnson, former Head of Global Purchasing at Jaguar Land Rover, and he will work collaboratively with your senior management team and key staffs to provide strategic advice and planning support in supply chain procurement.
The benefits to SMEs from having an improved supply chain has never been more important, and this scheme will help you to reduce costs, improving quality and performance but most importantly developing your capacity to innovate, so that you can build sustainable pipeline.

The Manufacturing Growth Programme
The Manufacturing Growth Programme provides business support around consultancy to assist SME sized manufacturers who are trading and who can show an intention to grow.
It’s being delivered by Economic Growth Solutions and SME’s will be able to access some capital funding to help pay towards 1/3 of agreed project costs up to a maximum of £10K.
